HomeOwners Alliance CEO Paula Higgins has won the Property Commentator of the Year award at the 2026 British Conveyancing Awards.

The award, sponsored by Groundsure, recognises individuals who share their insight and contribute to discourse around the property sector across news, print, video, social media, webinars and podcasts.

As a trusted commentator, Paula is a regular figure in the media. Recent appearances include:

But Paula and HomeOwners Alliance are also setting the agenda. For example…

From being an early proponent for leasehold reforms back in 2017 with their report Homes Held Hostage – The Rise and Abuse of Leasehold, through nearly a decade of campaigning and calling for the abolition of leasehold in the press, TV, radio, at government meetings, Parliamentary debates and most importantly providing advice for homeowners stuck with an fundamentally unfair form of tenure.

Research, campaigning and commentating to abolish Stamp Duty as an unfair tax holding back homeowners needing to move for their jobs, downsizing or right sizing.

And most recently, igniting a national debate around the demand for bungalows. The HomeOwners Alliance’s Bring Back the Bungalow campaign, used fresh consumer data to highlight the unmet demand for single-storey homes and led to appearances on BBC Radio 4’s You and Yours programme (listen here), the Jeremy Vine Show and Times Radio, demonstrating how HomeOwners Alliance’s insight can shape public conversation and industry attention.

Paula Higgins, CEO of the HomeOwners Alliance, says:

“For the past 12 years we’ve worked to get the voice of the homeowner heard in the media, by government and industry. I’m proud that my commentary doesn’t simply explain the market, it challenges unfair practices, informs policy thinking and helps drive reforms.

For me personally, becoming a regular, reliable national commentator has allowed me to represent consumers at the highest levels – on boards, panels, parliamentary sessions and industry forums. As the leader of a female-led organisation, I also take pride in showing that women’s voices belong at the centre of the housing debate
