HomeOwners Alliance

About the HomeOwners Alliance

The HomeOwners Alliance is a property advice website that provides practical advice, guides, tools and services to people wherever they are on the home owning journey. So whether you’re buying, selling, running or improving a home, we’re on your side.

We’re always in the news (just Google us!) offering advice and highlighting unfair practises to try to get homeowners a better deal.

Our services allow you to find a mortgage, the best local estate agent, building surveyors, conveyancing solicitors, tradesmen, removals firms, home and life insurance and more. We also run a membership service giving practical and professional advice to consumers every day. The company is delivering strong growth across its core business areas and it is therefore a really exciting time to join the team.

The role

We are looking for a web designer with strong WordPress and PHP experience who is passionate about UX/UI design, and can make improvements to our site to help drive growth and enable easier interactions from our users. You will be responsible for the design and development of our web-based interfaces considering all aspects of the user experience.

This means collaborating with colleagues to develop a brief, then design and deliver the product or solution. You’ll own the brief from start to finish, understanding the key purpose and identifying the best way to deliver the solution.  You will start with wireframes, craft elements for the design and prototype the solution for testing, setting up for and collecting feedback, refining and delivering that design, committing through staging, into production, actively collaborating with back end developers and product sponsors throughout.

Primary duties:

  • Collaborate with the team to prioritise UX improvements and agree a program for delivering those products that will see the biggest increase in engagement and conversion
  • Responsible for gathering and evaluating user requirements
  • Design user flows, sketches, wireframes, prototypes, visual designs, and detailed interactions for a product at scale — taking into consideration the full customer journey, touchpoints, mobile, and product experience.
  • Work with the back end developers to oversee and review the building process to ensure a polished experience for our users
  • Responsible for communication with backend (PHP, Java, etc.) applications, integration of bespoke developments into and maintenance of our WordPress website.
  • Iterate on designs according to feedback at key stages in the process.
  • Create and maintain our design system, principles and assets.
  • Analyse the effectiveness and report on your UX improvements.

What you’ll need:

  • Two years experience in a similar role designing and delivering UX improvements.
  • Experience as a wordpress developer, familiar with coding, plugins, scripting and bespoke development in this environment
  • Experience of creating wireframes, storyboards, user flows, process flows and site maps to effectively communicate interaction and design ideas, developing  UI mockups and prototypes to illustrate sites function and look.
  • Experience of creating web application front ends, designing, building and using modular, reusable components, designing graphic user interface elements like menus, tabs and widgets.
  • Experience of delivering all visual design stages from concept to hand-off to back end development.
  • Good eye for design and able to deliver solutions in a style consistent with – but which progresses – the look and feel of our site.
  • Experience of developing and establishing coding standards, procedures and documentation for the site.
  • Delivering UX that takes account of SEO factors such as Site Performance, Accessibility and Cross-Browser compatibility. All solutions will need to be tested on multiple devices and browsers before code commits to environments.
  • Proven ability to deliver project within time frames and work collaboratively.

Desirable

  • Experience of buying and selling a home

If you’ve been wanting to use your design and UX skills where they matter read our reviews. You’ll be joining a fast growing, exceptional team that already makes a real difference. Please email philip@hoa.org.uk for more information and salary details, attaching your covering letter and CV.
