Government guides to buying and selling a home launched
New comprehensive government guides to buying and selling a home are now available online

The government department responsible for with housing – the Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government – has launched two guides ‘How to sell a home’ and ‘How to buy a home’.
These new publications are available online and are aimed at consumers based in England and Wales and have been pulled together following consultation with a number of industry and consumer groups, including The HomeOwners Alliance.
The ‘How to sell’ guide covers the key steps of selling a property, lists organisations which can help and shows consumers where they can find further information.The 20-page guide covers everything from what to do before you sell, right through to choosing a removals firm.
The ‘How to buy’ guide, also 20 pages and following a similar format, includes information on leasehold and freehold, mortgages, conveyancing and the completions process.
The guides are part of the government’s pledge to improve the homebuying and selling process, which includes other proposed measures such as introducing reservation agreements and clamping down on referral fees.
