Get a move on – it takes 197 days to sell your home

These long summer nights might have you thinking you’ve got all the time in the world but, according to residential property specialist Move with Us, you may have missed the boat if you wanted to sell your house before the end of the year.

July 25, 2013

Moving home takes on average 197 days, according to The Move with Us Market Review, which analyses 750,000 market properties. So if you wanted to sell your home before 2013 you should have put it on the market by 18 June.

But don’t give up hope – we may have our reservations about the Government’s Help to Buy Mortgage Scheme but there’s no doubt that it’ll cause a rush in the housing market when it launches in January.

And if you are ready to sell then lucky you. Summer time is perfect for selling – longer days mean more hours during which viewers can see the house in the sun, when it’s looking its best.

Make the most of your garden if you have viewers coming. Flowers and green leafy trees make a much more welcoming sight than dark and damp winter days.

But if you’re looking for a new deadline for selling, we’ve calculated when you’ll have to get started if you’re working towards some significant dates in 2014.

• For a romantic Valentine ’s Day safe in the knowledge that your home is sold, you need to get it on the market by 1 August 2013.

• If you want to celebrate new beginnings in your new home at Easter, the deadline for putting your house on the market is 5 October 2013.

• To sell your home by the start of the World Cup on 12 June 2014, you need to get your home on the market by 27 November 2013.
