The latest Halifax price index suggests that house prices were unchanged in the three months to July compared to the previous three months. Halifax figures now show that the average house price in the UK is £161,094. Housing economist for the Halifax, Martin Ellis, said: “The underlying trend in house prices was flat in the three months to July compared with the previous three months.” As long as the recession does not get any worse Halifax predicts house prices to remain stable for the rest of the year. They claim that this is a result of static supply and demand.
